Meet Dr. Poss
I can’t imagine a better profession than orthodontics. I am excited, every day, to go to the office to meet with patients. Not only do I get to be involved with the life-changing impacts of a great smile, but I get to interact with the best people on the planet.
Just as my patients make my day exciting and rewarding, I hope that Blue Sky Orthodontics makes your orthodontic treatment an experience you look fondly on, for your entire life!
Education and Experience
I have been a dentist for more than a decade and an orthodontist in the Ames area for most of that time.
Choosing the orthodontic profession was easy for me: I get to play a role in creating one-of-a-kind smiles for one-of-a-kind people!
The smiles I craft are healthy and beautiful; they stay with patients throughout their lives, and give them stronger self-esteem and confidence in everything they do. It is incredible to have that kind of positive impact!
I attended Creighton University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Next came dental school at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Remaining at the university, I completed my orthodontic training and Master of Science.
Constant Learning and Professional Affiliations
Orthodontics is an always-advancing specialty. It is critical for me to stay current on the latest changes, because that enables me to provide the ideal treatment and utilize proven technologies and methodologies.
By performing many hours of research, I am able to identify the best options for individual patients. This ensures each person receives the highest-quality, research-based treatment for predictable, wonderful results: their very best smile!
I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. In addition to being board certified, am an active member of the:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Iowa Society of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- Des Moines Dental District Society
Dr. Poss is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Iowa Orthodontic Department where he helps train the next generation of world-class orthodontists that train at the Iowa Orthodontic Program.
Beyond the Office
Raised in Sibley, I now regard Ames as my home. When I’m not in the office, I’m most often found with my wife, Emily — who works here in the office — and our two children: Jack and Thea.
I love playing with the kids and, prior to COVID, enjoyed coaching their teams and helping out with many local school and community programs. I also enjoy sports, movies, video games, and love to travel too.
